ESASTAP is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology's Programme for International Cooperation and Resources.

The Department's Unit: Strategic Partnerships is entrusted with the operational management and implementation of ESASTAP. The Unit constitutes the ESASTAP Nerve Centre with the team consisting of:

  • Vene Muskett
  • Lebo Ramela
  • Tembela Eweje

Researchers making use of ESASTAP services will also engage with the ESASTAP administrative support team consisting of Lebo Ramela and Letta Setshedi.

The CSIR is an implementation partner in the ESASTAP, contributing its vast experience of Framework Programme project management.

The DST's Framework Programme Network of National Contact Points and the Department's Senior Science and Technology Representative in Brussels, Daan du Toit are other the key members of the ESASTAP team.

The Department of Science and Technology has established an office for a Senior Science and Technology Representative in Brussels with the priority objective of strengthening relations with the EC and other Brussels-based interlocutors to promote SA's Framework Programme participation. The representative position is currently vacant.

This Office will also play a central part in the implementation of ESASTAP.

The team in Brussels is:

  • Lyle Davidson (First Secretary, South African Mission to the European Union)
  • Francoise Dassy (Office Coordinator)
