One of the main competitive advantages in science and
technology is the quantity and quality of its human resources.
The overall aim of the FP7 People Programme is to make Europe
more attractive to researchers, so as to increase Europe's
capacity and performance in research and technological
development (R&D).
The programme will be implemented through a coherent set of
Marie Curie Actions, addressing researchers in terms of their
skills and competence development in all stages of their
careers, from initial research training to career development
and life-long training, thus imposing no age limit.
Transnational mobility of the researchers, both in Europe and
in the world, as well as intersectoral mobility in academia,
industry and other institutions (e.g. medical) are key elements
throughout the Marie Curie Actions. The Marie Curie Actions
are open to all domains of research and technological
development addressed under the Treaty. Research fields are
chosen freely by the applicants.

I would like to bring to your attention that there is a few new calls opened on 30 November 2007 under the European Union Seventh Framework Programme People's Category. Please check the International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES) and the Industry Academia Pathways and Partnerships (IAPP) calls which South Africans can participate in. The calls will be closed in March 2008. The Department of Science and Technology through the ESASTAP, is embarking on provincial road shows to inform South African researchers about the mobility instruments and emphasising more on the IRSES opportunity. The Department will continue with the road shows till mid February 2008. Please visit this website in January 2008 to see the dates and venues for the 2008 mobility road show. Below are the links to the calls and the 2008 People's Work Programme:
