Use DETECT-it 2 to detect opportunities for SMEs to participate in FP7
6 March 2007 - The DETECT-it 2 project is a FP6 funded initiative whose main objective is to detect opportunities for SMEs to participate in the first call of the 7th Framework Programme. DETECT-it 2 works with existing regional clusters across Europe and will focus on the following priority areas: ICT, Energy and Biotechnology. The focus of the resources is placed firmly on a bottom up approach of developing "SME intensive" FP7 projects. SMEs are encouraged to develop ideas for new research projects and to submit expressions of interest for other FP7 projects.

EU-funded researchers win Academy Award
27 February 2007 - A Scientific and Engineering Academy Award has been awarded to a team of European researchers whose collaboration was supported by Marie-Curie fellowships from the EU's Research Framework Programmes. Bill Collis, Simon Robinson and Bent Kent of UK visual effects company The Foundry, and video processing expert Anil Kokaram of Trinity College Dublin were awarded the prize for the design and development.

South Africa receives two EDCTP fellowships
January 2007 - Two South Africans have been awarded European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership Programme (EDCTP) fellowships. Mthiyane Thuli has been awarded a PhD Scholarship for "Reconstitution of TB antigen specific IFN-y responses in TB-HIV co-infected participants". Dr Molebogeng Xheedha Rangaka has been awarded a Career Development Fellowship for "Immunological investigation of the HIV-tuberculosis associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome".
