"SACCESS" is a project funded under the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for Research, implemented by the South African Department of Science and Technology and a range of European partners, aimed at promoting European participation in South Africa's national research and innovation initiatives. Given the substantial access South African researchers enjoy to the European Union's Framework Programmes, the project seeks to promote appropriate reciprocal access for European researchers to South African programmes. Promoting such reciprocity in cooperation is also one of the objectives of the South Africa - EU Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology. SACCESS will therefore present a series of information days in Europe to present cooperation opportunities in South Africa to European researchers. This first event will present access to and cooperation opportunities with South Africa's National Research facilities, including the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory, the Karoo Array Telescope (MeerKAT), the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory, the iThemba LABS (laboratory for accelerator-based sciences), the National Zoological Gardens, the South African Astronomical Observatory, the South African Environmental Observation Network and the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity.
