Innovation in sport – An R&D policy conference on the occasion of the 2010 South Africa-EU Summit
Sport medicine, high-performance materials, stadium engineering – all are examples of the high-tech nature of international sport today, and its importance to policy and the economy. So what should governments, world-wide, do to encourage and compete? New R&D programmes? New policies for innovation?
South Africa this year successfully hosted the FIFA World Cup, and on Sept. 28 the country’s annual summit with the EU will review cooperation in many fields, including science and technology. This conference is a unique opportunity to sample the latest in sport technologies internationally, explore the policy implications, and connect with leaders in sporting industry, research and policy.
Speakers include:
- Prof. Tim Noakes
Sports Science Institute of South Africa (70 marathons, author of 'The Lore of Running.')
- Naledi Pandor
South African Minister of Science and Technology
- Luuk Borg
Head of the EUREKA Secretariat
- David Harmon
Member of Cabinet, EU Research, Innovation and Science Commissioner
Hosted by the South African Department of Science and Technology in partnership with Science|Business, as a support event for the 2010 South Africa-EU Summit.
