South Africa and European Union - 10 years of fruitful partnership celebration

4 December 2007

On 29 November 2007, South Africa and the European Union celebrated ten years of mutually beneficial co-operation since the entry into force of the SA-EU S&T co-operation agreement in November 1997. The Minister of Science and technology, Mosibudi Mangena and the European Commission Commissioner Janez Potocnik presented South African National Contact Points (NCPs) with certificates of recognition for their role in the success of the relationship. The celebration included a round table industry discussion on innovation and the knowledge economy. Both Minister Mangena and Commissioner Potocnik acknowledged that the Science and Technology partnership constitutes a powerful force in advancing multilateral efforts to address shared global challenges such as sustainable development.
