The Water4All 2026 Joint Transnational Call is now open for research and innovation projects under the theme “Sustainable Water Management”.

The call brings together 32 funding organisations from 30 countries, with an indicative total budget of approximately €34 million. It aims to support transnational research and innovation that addresses critical water-management challenges and contributes to evidence-based water policies and strategies at national, European and global levels.

The call focuses on integrated water management, including Integrated Water Resource Management, river basin management, groundwater management, water resilience, integrated water monitoring and data management, and water-positive solutions.

CALL TOPICS

Research and innovation proposals must address at least one of the following topics:

Topic 1: Integrated Monitoring and Assessment for Sustainable Water Management
Topic 2: Nature-Based Approaches for Resilient Water Management at hydrological and hydrogeological system scale
Topic 3: Smart, secure and adaptive water infrastructures
Topic 4: Resilient Water Systems Through Systemic Change, Policy Coherence and Inclusive Governance

The topics are overlapping and non-exclusive, and proposals may address more than one topic where relevant.

CONSORTIUM REQUIREMENTS

Each consortium must include at least three eligible partners requesting funding from participating funding organisations in three different countries. It must also include at least two independent legal entities from two different EU Member States or Horizon Europe associated countries as recipients of financial support.

Consortia may include a maximum of seven partners, including one self-funded partner. Applicants must comply with both the general international eligibility criteria and the relevant national or regional funding requirements.

The call also includes an additional modality for Early Career Researchers, applying to researchers who obtained their PhD less than 10 years before the launch of the call, subject to exemptions specified in the applicable national or regional regulations.

INFORMATION WEBINAR

An international information webinar for applicants will take place on 17 September 2026 from 14:00 to 16:00 CEST.

The webinar will provide prospective applicants with further information about the Water4All 2026 Joint Transnational Call, including the call topics, application process and requirements, with an opportunity to ask questions.

Pre-proposal deadline: 10 November 2026 at 15:00 CET
Selection of pre-proposals: Early February 2027
Full proposal deadline: 6 April 2027 at 15:00 CEST
Selection of funded proposals: September 2027
Project start: End 2027/beginning 2028
